Where Our Story Began
Every journey has a beginning.
The roots of Starwood Lanka trace back to the Jayasinghe Group, where a family tradition of entrepreneurship began to take shape through hard work, relationships and an instinct for opportunity.
The family’s involvement in Sri Lanka’s gem industry dates back to approximately 1950, with strong connections to the gem-rich regions of Ratnapura and Pelmadulla.
What began within a traditional Sri Lankan industry would eventually become the foundation for something much broader.

As the years passed, the knowledge, relationships and resources built through the family’s early businesses opened the door to new possibilities. The journey gradually expanded beyond its original roots, creating interests across furniture and wood, gems and jewellery, international education, hospitality, plantations, and international trade. Each new direction represented another chapter in the same story, a willingness to recognise opportunity, adapt and continue moving forward.
